Multi-Room Audio

How does it work?

At the heart of the system is a device called a audio matrix. All audio sources (e.g. CD/Tuner/DAB/iPod/digital music) connect to the audio matrix and send sound to all the wall/ceiling speakers around the home, the system can also deliver internet music services such as Rhapsody, Tunein and any of your favourite internet radio stations. The audio matrix and speakers are linked using standard speaker cable, we recommend 79awg and oxygen free copper if possible.

In order to turn the equipment on/off and instruct the audio system to send the desired content to the correct TV/projector, a system-controller is required. We use Control4 system-controllers which offer great value for money as well as industry leading power and reliability.

There are two ways to control the system. Either choose one of our easy-to-use remote controls or, if you prefer, with a smartphone, tablet or computer. Whichever you choose, it’s really easy to control all your audio equipment from one device – no more coffee tables full of remotes! For example, just choose ‘listen > Radio 2′ from the menu and the centrally-located DAB will turn on and the audio matrix will send the programme from the Radio 2 to your desired room. If you want a party mode then add any other rooms by selecting them in the zone menu and all your rooms are in perfect sync and playing the same content!

What’s not included:
We haven’t included racking, multiway extension leads, or running cable to each speaker from the equipment location. We’d be happy to provide a competitive quote for running the cables or we can advise your electrician. TV/projects or video sources although we’re happy to supply them or advise what to get.

Note about audio sources:
It’s usually possible to include existing audio sources like CD players and DAB’s in the system. However, some makes and models are better suited to system integration than others. We can advise whether your existing equipment is suitable and advise appropriate replacements if it’s not.

Hints and tips:

Because cables have to be installed from the audio matrix to each speaker point, multi-room audio is usually only suitable for new house builds or houses which are being renovated/rewired.

Where possible, locate the audio equipment in a room or cupboard that is centrally located in the house. This minimises cable lengths.

Questions and answers:

Can I listen to the same track/soucre in more than one room? Yes, all rooms…

Can I listen to a different CD track in different different rooms from one CD player. No using itunes or ripping your CD’s to a NAS would allow you to do this.

Can I listen to a different DAB station in different different room from one DAB box. No, but you could use an internet streamed version of the second station.
